These are 3 things you shouldn’t do after a car crash

On Behalf of | Aug 27, 2020 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Imagine getting into a car crash. You’re sitting at the scene with a vehicle that may or may not run, and there is damage all around you. You may be injured, and others may be dealing with their own medical emergencies.

In situations like this, it’s easy to make mistakes. Before you do, remember these three things that you should never do if you’ve been involved in a crash.

1. Don’t leave the scene

Even if you feel fine and think that you can drive yourself to the hospital, it’s a bad idea to leave the scene. You could be charged with being a hit-and-run driver, even if the crash wasn’t your fault. Stay where you are unless it’s dangerous to do so.

2. Don’t try to clean up

You might have a few embarrassing items in the backseat, or perhaps you just want to make the area safer for the emergency team. Whatever the reason is, you still shouldn’t try to clean up. Sweeping up glass or moving items can affect the investigation and create a misleading scene. On top of that, you could be putting yourself or others in danger by being in the roadway and attempting to rid it of glass or other debris.

3. Don’t ignore other people

You might be furious about getting into a crash, but if you’re able to do so, you still need to check on the others involved. At the end of the day, everyone’s lives are more important than an argument over who was at fault.

These are three things you shouldn’t do if you’re in a crash. Stay where you are and try to be considerate toward others; this is a difficult situation to be in.
