What can you do to avoid a crash with tourists?

Traffic accidents are common throughout New York, and with the summer here, it means that more tourists will be piling into the state. While tourism is a great way to bring more money into the local economy, it can also be a huge hassle for the people who live there all year.

Part of the reason that tourism is negative is that it impacts the roads. While the locals might be used to getting to work in 10 minutes every day and taking their favorite routes, those could suddenly be filled up with cars traveling to destinations throughout the state.

During the summer, how can you reduce the risk of a crash?

You know that tourism means that more people will be on the roads, but do you know how to reduce the risk of a collision? One thing you can do is to avoid busy hours on the roads.

You probably know about rush hour, but when tourists are around, the afternoon is bound to be busy. If you have to head to work, try to get up and go before rush hour if you can, so that you can travel when there are fewer people on the roads. When you’re coming home at the end of the day, try to take familiar local routes that avoid major highways or major routes through the city.

In the case that you are involved in an accident with someone who is a tourist, make sure you call the police to the scene and exchange information so that you can file a claim.
