Car crashes can be avoided: You deserve compensation

On Behalf of | May 16, 2019 | Motor Vehicle Accidents |

Car crashes happen everywhere. From rural roads where few people travel to busy interstates, nowhere is safe from the risk of a crash.

There were 34,247 fatal crashes in the United States in 2017. In total, 37,133 people were killed in those crashes. If that doesn’t seem like many people or crashes, remember that these fatal crashes may also have resulted in injuries to others. Hundreds of thousands of people are injured in crashes each year.

If you’ve been involved in a crash, don’t think that you’re alone. Most people know someone who has been in a crash or have been in crashes themselves. If you drive or are on the roads, you’re always at risk of being involved in a collision.

What should you do if you’re hurt in a crash?

It’s essential that you know what to do if you’re hurt in a collision. Most people know that they should call 911 right away, but in the heat of the moment, they may wait to do so. If you can, use OnStar in your vehicle or call 911 on your phone as soon as possible. If you are unable to call for help, ask a witness or other party involved to do so.

When the police arrive, they’ll start by assisting those who are injured if the medical team hasn’t yet arrived. While the police are there to take statements, their first goal is to help people who are hurt. Don’t worry about giving a statement until your medical needs are met and you’re medically stable.

You or someone you know can reach out to your attorney after the crash so that your attorney can start working on negotiating with the other driver’s insurance agency while you recover.
