Winter driving is one of the most important things to talk about throughout the year. By the time winter arrives, drivers need to be prepared to do what they have to do to stay safe. That means knowing how to control their vehicles in inclement weather.

There are a number of things you can do before you start driving that will put you in a better position to get where you’re going safely. Here are four things to do before you put your car into drive.

1. Let it warm up

If there is ice or snow on your vehicle, letting it warm up is a great way to remove it. You can scrape away ice and snow using a tool, but heating up the inside of the vehicle will also help it break free and melt away, which gives you clear vision when you drive.

2. Knock snow off the roof

Another thing to do is to remove snow from the roof of your vehicle. This snow can fall when driving and obscure your vision as well as the vision of others.

3. Roll down windows

Windows might be stuck due to ice, so make sure they’re moving up and down before you drive. You never know when you’ll need them to open, and you don’t want to find out that they won’t.

4. Adjust your mirrors

You should always adjust your mirrors but check again before you drive if you’ve been cleaning off your vehicle. You may have moved them without realizing it.

These are four things to do before driving in the winter. These simple steps could help prevent a crash.
