Facing accusations of driving under the influence can be a stressful and daunting experience. The penalties for a drunk driving conviction are serious and may only increase in severity if a collision occurs in the process, especially one causing major injuries. A 27-year-old man is facing DWI charges following a recent accident involving a pedestrian in New York.

The incident reportedly took place on a recent Saturday outside of a local church. According to police, the man’s vehicle suddenly slammed into a van that was parked outside the building, then proceeded to hit a pedestrian before finally coming to a stop. They say the pedestrian was seriously injured in the process, and she and the two individuals in the van were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The man was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with driving while intoxicated. No information was provided as to how authorities came to suspect that intoxication was a factor in the collision, such as the administration of field sobriety or breath tests. With the potential weight of a conviction for similar charges, those accused of drunk driving may find it beneficial to prepare for what comes next by focusing on their defense.

When facing DWI charges, it is generally advisable to seek counsel in the early stages of the process. By speaking with a defense attorney, a client in New York could obtain some much-needed advice on making informed decisions. An attorney can evaluate the situation, advise a client of the potential consequences he or she may face and assist in pursuing the best outcome possible during legal proceedings.
