Teenager on Long Island arrested for DUI following car crash

On Behalf of | May 3, 2018 | DWI |

A 19-year old woman and several others wound up in a hospital following a recent motor vehicle collision. The teenager was driving at the time when her car and a truck collided. The events that unfolded from there quickly drew the attention of several passers-by who pulled off the road to try to help those in need. The situation also led to the woman’s need for criminal defense assistance because she is now facing DUI charges in New York.

Upon impact in the collision, the woman’s car got stuck under the back of the truck. What made matters worse was that the truck driver was apparently not aware of the crash that had just occurred and kept driving for at least a quarter mile. The truck driver reportedly pulled over to the side of the road as soon as he realized the woman’s car was being dragged under his truck.

When the truck came to a stop, the woman’s car caught fire while she was still inside. Two other travelers came to her assistance; shortly after, police and rescue workers also arrived to help. The woman survived her injuries but was injured. Several others were also hurt, including two police officers and one individual who had stopped to assist those involved.

Throughout New York state and all others, DUI charges do not constitute guilt; rather, they are formal accusations that must actually be proved in court. Every person who stands accused is guaranteed the right to present as strong a defense as possible in court. In situations where motor vehicle accidents have occurred that resulted in other people’s injuries, a defendant is wise to rely on experienced legal representation to try to avoid conviction.
