Police say chase led to charges of illegal drug possession

On Behalf of | May 17, 2018 | Drug Charges |

A New York man is accused of trying to evade police officers who were in pursuit of him on a recent Monday night. The 34-year-old is now facing drug possession charges. The man was reportedly wanted by authorities because of various traffic and vehicle violations. Police say the man drove away when they attempted to detain him.

The situation tuned into an all-out car chase on the New York Thruway, which ultimately led to police taking the man into custody. The officers who pursued the man later said they witnessed him throwing things out of his car window during the chase. At some point, those items were apparently recovered; police claim the items were illegal drugs.

The defendant will likely face a great challenge in trying to overcome the charges against him. He is accused of tampering with evidence, obstructing governmental administration and unlawful fleeing by motor vehicle. Most individuals facing similar charges retain legal representation before heading to court.

In New York or any other state, acting alongside an experienced defense attorney is generally the best way to protect one’s rights in a criminal proceeding. It also helps determine which type of strategy would increase the chances of building the strongest defense against drug possession or some other criminal offense. No matter how many charges are filed, any person accused of a crime is presumed innocent unless proved otherwise.  It’s often possible for an experienced attorney to successfully combat the efforts of prosecutors in their quests to secure conviction.
