Man in New York facing federal drug charges

On Behalf of | May 22, 2018 | Drug Charges |

Anyone who has dealt with the criminal justice system understand how stressful it can be. Sometimes, a person will have to appear in several different courts at various appointed times before his or her case is fully adjudicated. An example of this can be found in one situation where a New York man was facing drug charges at the state level in another state, but is now facing federal charges after the charges at the state level were dismissed.

An arrest was made in mid-April following a federal complaint regarding suspected unlawful trafficking of scheduled drugs. The defendant was set free on $5,000 unsecured bail. His release included home confinement restrictions.

The man was recently indicted on federal charges alleging heroin distribution after a complaint was originally filed against him in the Western District of New York. Prosecutors claim an undercover informant bought $200 worth of heroin and cocaine from the defendant in Maine. He now awaits arraignment in a U.S. District Court in Maine, where the drug transactions were allegedly made.

Facing federal drug charges is no small matter. If the man in this case is unable to avoid conviction, he may spend as many as 20 years behind bars. This is why securing aggressive defense assistance is often so crucial to preserving one’s freedom and obtaining the most positive outcome possible in court. Prosecutors generally unleash all options at their disposal to try to convict a defendant. In NewYork, an experienced criminal defense attorney can help build a compelling defense and represent a client’s best interests at every stage of the criminal court proceedings.
