Upon initiating a stop for a traffic violation, a police officer may request to search the vehicle, perhaps especially if he or she becomes suspicious of criminal activity. While in some cases a search may be uneventful, in others, a person could be facing criminal charges should the officer claim to uncover the presence of illegal drugs. A 27-year-old man has been arrested and is facing drug charges following a recent traffic stop in New York.

New York State Troopers initiated the traffic stop after coming upon a vehicle they say was exhibiting erratic driving behavior. Upon approaching the vehicle to speak with the driver, they claim to have noticed the presence of illegal narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered numerous bags of crack cocaine and cocaine, and the man was taken into custody.

In addition to being accused of intoxicated driving, the man is also facing felony charges for possession with intent to deliver. Felony charges carry serious penalties if a conviction is obtained, such as a lengthy prison term and a substantial amount in fines. Those who face similar charges may wish to protect themselves from potentially devastating consequences, but the process can be stressful and intimidating.

When accused of numerous criminal charges, an individual may find it beneficial to seek guidance in forming a strong defense. Those who face drug charges could speak with an attorney for advice on the best course of action to take moving forward. A defense attorney in New York can inform a client of the potential consequences he or she may face and provide advice on how to pursue the best outcome possible given the circumstances.
