New York CEO facing felony charges for grand larceny allegations

Felonies are considered more serious than misdemeanors and typically involve mandatory jail time. This may paint a rather dire picture for any New York individuals facing felony charges, but when it comes to criminal charges, there are also different degrees and classes of these crimes. For example, one New York woman has been charged with Grand Larceny in the fourth degree, which is a non-violent crime considered a class E felony.

The defendant in question was a 26-year-old woman serving as the CEO and Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce for the Greater Mahopac/Carmel area. Allegedly, a joint investigation between the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Putnam County District Attorney’s Office led to the arrest of the woman for a purported misappropriation of the organization’s funds. Investigators arrested the woman on Tuesday, March 21.

After she was booked, she was released on an appearance ticket. She was directed to reappear and answer the charges against her at a later date at the town’s Justice Court. If she is convicted of the felony charges against her, she could face thousands of dollars in fines and restitution and up to four years in prison.

The defendant will undoubtedly wish to contact a lawyer with experience in similar felony cases to begin building a solid defense strategy. An experienced New York criminal defense attorney can help counsel on the best course of action and fight for a positive outcome while ensuring that all of the woman’s legal rights are protected and that she is treated fairly. Those facing felony charges typically find the guidance and representation of an experienced defense lawyer invaluable.
