Two New York teens arrested on charges of cocaine possession

On Behalf of | Feb 22, 2017 | Drug Charges |

Drug possession, while a non-violent crime, can still carry lifelong repercussions if a defendant is found guilty. Sentencing varies greatly but can include jail or prison time ranging from a few days or weeks to upwards of 10 years. The two New York teens who were arrested for alleged cocaine possession will undoubtedly want to hire the best criminal defense possible in an attempt to combat the charges they are now facing.

The youths, aged 18 and 19 years, were arrested early on the morning of Monday, Feb. 20 following a traffic stop. Police claim that the vehicle in which the two young men were traveling failed to dim its lights while driving into oncoming traffic. During the ensuing stop, deputies claim they discovered that both of the vehicle’s occupants were in possession of cocaine.

The passengers were taken into police custody. The 21-year-old driver of the vehicle was also charged with a traffic violation as well as possession of a small amount of marijuana, according to a police statement. All three of the defendants were processed and released on appearance tickets.

The young men have the legal right to seek the representation of a New York criminal defense attorney. An experienced lawyer will be able to protect the rights of anyone accused of drug crimes, from marijuana or cocaine possession to even more serious allegations like drug trafficking. A defense attorney will fight on behalf of his or her client, working hard to deliver the best possible outcome and attempting to ensure that the charges do not negatively affect those accused for the rest of their lives.
