Man charged with criminal offense after allegedly stabbing woman

On Behalf of | Feb 11, 2015 | Felonies |

Crimes occur every single day here in New York and throughout the rest of the country. In some cases, it is quite clear who the suspect is and who will be charged with a criminal offense. In other cases, it may not be quite as clear, and an innocent person might be accused of a crime that he or she did not commit. A 57-year-old man was recently charged with second-degree attempted murder in Broome County.

Authorities were called to an apartment complex to investigate reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, officers found a woman with numerous lacerations on her upper body. She is listed in critical condition at a local hospital. At this time, authorities are unsure of what was used to stab the woman, and they have reportedly been unable to find a weapon.

Authorities arrested a man at the scene that lives in the same apartment complex. It is not clear if he was inside the apartment of the woman when authorities arrived. It is also unclear what evidence officers relief upon in arresting the man and accusing him of the stabbing. Officers say that the man and the woman lived in the same building and are unsure whether the two had any kind of relationship with one another.

This man — as well as anyone else who finds themselves facing allegations of a criminal offense — will want to ensure that all individual rights are carefully protected as these criminal proceedings move forward. The New York court system is complicated, and it is crucial to be aware of applicable procedures in order to protect one’s legal rights and fight for the best possible result. While it remains to be seen what the result will be in this case, the accused man is fully protected by the presumption of innocence and has every right to fair and impartial proceedings. Having an experienced criminal defense attorney can help safeguard these legal rights throughout the process.
