New York football star gets drug possession charge for fake weed

On Behalf of | Jan 28, 2014 | Drug Charges |

People can sometimes make the assumption that someone was participating in criminal activity without actually knowing what it is that the person is really doing. False accusations and reports can put someone in the position where they are arrested and have to prove their innocence for a crime they did not commit. Although most New York reports are made with good intentions, it can be damaging to a person’s career and community status if the allegations are incorrect — such as a report of lewd conduct and drug possession.

One man who was recently the center of a public investigation just happens to be a tight end player for a New York football team. This man’s career and the way people judge him as a professional influence may have been damaged by recent reports that are apparently untrue. A woman made a report to the local police department claiming that she thought the man was masturbating in his vehicle while parked in a public parking lot.

The man was questioned but was not charged for any sexual misconduct or lewd acts in public. According to the report, the man was, however, charged with possession of synthetic marijuana. The man apparently thought the drug was legal and claims that he was simply changing the clothes he had been wearing because they smelled like the synthetic marijuana.

The professional football player apparently pleaded not guilty, but since two bags of the synthetic drug were allegedly found in his vehicle, he was charged with drug possession. The facts of the case may seem cut and dry, but these types of cases can sometimes come with more of a punishment for public figures. Anyone in New York who finds themselves in this type of situation would surely benefit from having the assistance of a defense team to assure that they are not falsely punished.
