New York man faces felony charges for double homicide

On Behalf of | Oct 30, 2013 | Felonies |

A man who New York police believe may have been involved in a double homicide that occurred last week has been arrested and is now facing multiple charges in relation to his alleged crimes. The man is accused of shooting two men on the street in East New York. The man faces felony charges of murder as well as criminal possession of a weapon.

According to the report, two men were shot outside on Pennsylvania Avenue in Brooklyn. The man, 59-years-old, lives on the same street that the two victims were shot on. When police arrived around 8:35 p.m., both victims were spotted lying in the street with gunshot wounds to the chest.

Both victims were taken to an area hospital to receive treatment. One victim, 21-years-old, died shortly after arrival, and the other 37-year-old victim died the following morning. The suspect has been apprehended and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

It is unclear exactly why police arrested the man; the only fact that was given is that the man lived on the same street that the victims were shot on. If the record is indeed as limited as it appears, it may be difficult for New York prosecutors to prove the man’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, and his defense might benefit from a careful study of the arrest record. If the prosecution cannot provide sufficient evidence to prove the felony charges he is accused of beyond a reasonable doubt, his case could be thrown out of court entirely.
