New York residents may be used to hearing about unusual stories through various media outlets that result in felony charges. It may not be often that a story involving teenagers and a vending machine results in felony charges though. However, a recent story involving teenagers and a vending machine has done just that.
While teenagers can sometimes make bad decisions, those decisions can also come with consequences. The five teenagers broke into a building and then broke into a vending machine. It was not said how they entered the building, but the vending machine appeared to have been smashed with a fire extinguisher. They reportedly took candy and chips from the vending machine. As a result, they have been charged with burglary in the third degree which is a felony.
Each teen could face their charges in a different manner. Punishments can at times be based on not only the current charges, but any prior charges or convictions as well. No information was given about the teens individually so it’s unknown if any of them have had any other run-ins with the law. Although a felony is undoubtedly a serious charge, a court may be more lenient in a case in which no prior charges have been filed.
Any New York resident facing similar felony charges could benefit from having an understanding of their rights within the applicable state law and taking quick action. Knowing one’s rights and not only the best way to proceed, but what to expect when moving forward can be helpful to the person. With the right knowledge, a person can be hopeful to face the charges and resume with their normal life as soon as possible.
