Single car wreck leads to drunk driving charges in New York

On Behalf of | Jul 24, 2017 | DWI |

Impairment has been a contributing factor in many motor vehicle accidents throughout the years. Those who are accused of drunk driving face severe consequences if a conviction is obtained, perhaps even more so if a dangerous accident occurs in the process. A woman is currently facing drunk driving charges after a recent accident in New York.

Police claim the accident took place just before midnight on a recent Sunday, when a westbound car suddenly slammed into a utility pole. Two people were in the vehicle at the time, both of whom were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries. The passenger’s injuries were said to be serious, but he is reportedly in stable condition. The driver also remains hospitalized, but her condition was not given.

Although police have advised that the investigation is currently still underway, the woman is already facing multiple charges, including DWI. It is unclear how police came to believe the woman was intoxicated at the time, and no indication was given pertaining to the administration of breath and/or blood tests. Those who face charges of this nature may often wish to protect themselves from potentially devastating consequences, but they may be uncertain how to achieve this goal.

When accused of drunk driving, one might find it advisable to seek guidance for any coming court proceedings as soon as possible. By speaking with a defense attorney, a client in New York could obtain advice on making informed decisions throughout the process. An attorney can evaluate the circumstances around the alleged incident and advise a client of the best course of action with which to proceed.
