Woman faces charges after killing 29-year-old cyclist in DWI

Driving when intoxicated can quickly cause problems for you. If you cause a crash, you could be charged for harming or killing another person on top of being intoxicated and reckless. Even worse, if you have passengers or children in your vehicle, you could face penalties that are much more significant, going as far as to threaten your ability to keep custody of your child in the most severe cases.

Take, for example, this case should be a warning not to drink and drive. According to the news report, the female driver had her 4-year-old child in the vehicle while she was intoxicated. She was driving at around 10:30 p.m. when she struck a 29-year-old man who was traveling on an e-bike. The 22-year-old woman then drove her vehicle onto the curb and hit a building.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the woman and her daughter were taken to Kings County Hospital for treatment. The mother now faces many criminal charges including acting in a way that was injurious to a child under 17, criminally negligent homicide, vehicular manslaughter, driving while ability impaired with alcohol, aggravated driving while intoxicated and others.

What you should take away from a case like this is that a DWI can quickly lead to much more than just a traffic stop and the loss of your license. If someone else is hurt or killed, you could face serious penalties including time in prison. Your attorney can help you fight the charges and make sure you face only those that are fair in the situation.
