Traffic stop leads to multiple drug charges for 1 in New York

In many cases, a routine traffic stop may involve little more than a warning or a small monetary fine. In others, the consequences could be significantly more severe, especially if authorities suspect the driver of involvement in drug-related activity. A 28-year-old man is currently facing numerous drug charges after he was recently arrested during a traffic stop in New York.

According to reports, authorities initiated the traffic stop just after 3:30 a.m. on a recent Saturday morning after allegedly coming upon a vehicle that was exceeding the speed limit. Upon approaching the driver, they claim to have discovered that he was under the influence of alcohol, which led to a search of the vehicle. During the search, officers allegedly uncovered the presence of over 2 grams of cocaine.

The man was taken into custody shortly after the search, and eventually released to a sober party upon posting bail. He is facing numerous charges in relation to the incident, including possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Although it is unclear how authorities came to believe he was intoxicated at the time, he also stands accused of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The penalties for drug-related crimes are severe, and a conviction could have a substantial impact on a person's future. Individuals who are facing multiple drug charges may find it beneficial to speak with a defense attorney as soon as possible for advice on the best way to approach the situation. An attorney can advise a client in New York of the consequences he or she may face and assist in forming a strong defense for use during subsequent legal proceedings.
