Facing allegations for a drug-related crime can often be an intimidating process. With the severity of the potential consequences of a conviction for similar offenses, those who face drug charges may often wish to protect themselves by challenging the charges during court proceedings. Two men in New York may currently be focusing on their defense after they were recently arrested while out walking.
A local police officer claims to have came upon two individuals who were out walking on a recent Sunday morning, one of whom allegedly had an active warrant for arrest. Upon approaching the men, the officer asserts that the wanted man attempted to carefully pass a backpack to the other, allegedly in a suspicious manner. The officer then requested the man to drop the bag, and both were placed under arrest shortly after.
While it is unclear whether the backpack contained illegal drugs, or if it was even searched at all, both men are facing drug charges in relation to the incident. The officer also asserts that the second individual provided information about a meth lab. No information was provided concerning potential additional charges, perhaps since authorities say the investigation is currently ongoing.
When facing drug charges, an accused individual always has the right to obtain legal counsel before responding to allegations. By speaking with a defense attorney, a client in New York could obtain some much-needed advice on making informed decisions throughout the process. An attorney can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client, along with the procedures used during arrest, and provide advice on the best course of action with which to proceed.
