Police officers have arrested countless individuals over the years on suspicion of drug-related crimes. Accused individuals often find the criminal defense process to be stressful and daunting. Even if a person is eventually cleared of all charges, he or she could have suffered significantly throughout this period. A security guard recently experienced a similar situation after he was accused of drug charges in New York.
The man was working as a security guard at JFK Airport at the time. Authorities apparently executed a search warrant at his home, where they were reportedly unable to find any indication of the presence of narcotics. A few months later, the man was arrested following accusations made by an undercover officer, claiming the man had sold him drugs at least three separate times.
He was eventually released from custody, but was suspended from his employment in relation to the charges. He claimed to be able to prove his innocence, and although ultimately cleared of all charges, the process took around six months. He claims to have suffered both emotionally and financially throughout this difficult period, and although he has regained his employment, he has reportedly moved his family away from the area.
Individuals who are facing drug charges often seek to protect themselves from potentially devastating consequences. Navigating this process alone can be challenging, prompting many of the accused to retain the services of a defense attorney in New York. An attorney can evaluate the evidence and charges against a person and assist them in forming a strong defense, which might go a long way in protecting and preserving his or her future.
