Fire alarm leads to drug charges for 4 in New York

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2017 | Drug Charges |

Fire alarms are placed in buildings everywhere to alert emergency responders of potential dangers. Should one of these alarms go off, the response time is generally swift, and upon arrival, an investigation of the area typically follows. While this sweep may be intended to identify potential hazardous, if suspicious activity is present, accusations of crimes may follow. Four individuals are reportedly facing drug charges after a similar situation in New York.

Authorities assert that a fire alarm recently went off around 2:30 a.m. at a local apartment complex. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters initiated an investigation into the cause of the alarm, and claim to have stumbled upon suspicious activity in the process. They proceeded to notify police, which subsequently led to the arrest of four individuals.

No information was provided as to the nature of the evidence found by firefighters, or how each individual came under suspicion of involvement in drug activity. All of the accused are currently facing charges in relation to the alleged manufacturing of methamphetamine. A conviction for similar charges is severe, and could include time behind bars and hefty fines. Those charged with drug crimes may wish to avoid potentially devastating consequences by challenging the charges, but they might be uncertain how to proceed.

When an individual is facing drug charges, he or she could benefit from seeking counsel in the early stages of the process. By speaking with an attorney, a client in New York might be able to obtain advice on the potential consequences he or she may face, as well as assistance in forming a strong defense for use moving forward. An attorney can evaluate the charges against a client, along with the evidence, and assist in pursuing the most favorable outcome possible during legal proceedings.
