1 accused of drunk driving after recent accident in New York

There are a multitude of circumstances in which a car accident may occur. Perhaps one of the more prevalent causes is intoxication, since impairment inherently reduces a person’s reaction time and ability to make sound decisions while driving. A recent accident in New York is said to have taken place under similar circumstances, and a 26-year-old man has been accused of drunk driving in relation to it.

The accident reportedly occurred around 6:30 a.m. on a recent Sunday when the man lost control of his vehicle after striking another car. According to police, he then proceeded to collide with a parked vehicle before slamming into the pillars beneath an elevated subway track. The driver and three others were taken to a medical facility shortly after the accident for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

The man who allegedly initiated the collision is now facing drunk driving charges after police claim his blood alcohol content was over .08 percent, which exceeds the legal limit for operating a vehicle in New York. Similar charges have serious penalties if a conviction is obtained, which only increase in severity when a collision occurs, perhaps especially if injuries are involved. With the potential weight of the consequences, those accused of similar crimes may find it beneficial to seek guidance as soon as possible.

When accused of drunk driving, a person may choose to prepare for legal proceedings by focusing on forming a strong defense. Since the process can be complex, one could choose to speak with an experienced attorney for advice and assistance. By examining the evidence and charges against a client, an attorney in New York can provide advice on the best course of action with which to proceed.
