Man facing drug charges following traffic stop in New York

On Behalf of | Apr 19, 2017 | Drug Charges |

Routine traffic stops have been the cause of countless arrests involving accusations of drug-related crimes. Allegations alone can be difficult for an individual to endure, with challenges arising in various areas of life, such as reputation and/or employment. A conviction is generally much more devastating, likely including a lengthy prison term. A 19-year-old man was recently arrested and is now facing drug charges following a traffic stop in New York.

Authorities claim to have stopped the vehicle in question for speeding on the interstate. They claim that a subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered as much as 78 grams of Cathinone. The man was arrested and is now facing charges for criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.

When an individual is involved in a routine traffic stop, he or she has rights that may not be violated concerning the search procedure. There was no indication of what led the officers to search this particular vehicle, such as reasonable suspicion of a crime. If a person is searched without reasonable cause or without giving consent, the charges against him or her may be reduced or dropped altogether.

Facing drug charges alone can be stressful and daunting, prompting many individuals to exercise their right to seek legal counsel. When facing a similar situation, a person may choose to speak with an attorney for advice on how to proceed. A defense attorney in New York can thoroughly examine all the evidence against an individual, along with the search procedures used in the arrest, and assist him or her in pursuing the best overall outcome given the circumstances.
