New York accountant facing felony charges

On Behalf of | Mar 14, 2017 | Felonies |

Even when they are non-violent, felonies are considered the most serious types of crime, and while the sentencing for anyone convicted may vary depending upon the type of crime committed, they are generally subject to prison sentences of longer than one year. For this reason, the knowledgeable legal counsel of an experienced defense attorney can prove invaluable when someone has been accused of any type of felony. One such New York man will undoubtedly wish to secure such legal counsel, as he is currently facing a number of felony charges.

In October 2016, a man contacted officials to report the theft of his stocks, valued at $40,000. An ensuing investigation by authorities resulted in the arrest of the man’s accountant, a 49-year-old male. The defendant was arraigned and remanded to Dutchess County Jail, where he awaits trial.

Authorities claim the investigation incriminated the accountant, who they accuse of trading his client’s stocks for his own financial benefit. Furthermore, authorities allege that the defendant used the client’s social security number to illegally open new credit card accounts. The accountant is now facing several felony charges, including first degree identity theft, third degree grand larceny and first degree falsifying business records.

With the multiple felony charges the defendant has had levied against him, he will probably want to consult a criminal defense attorney with experience in cases of a similar nature. A lawyer will be able to help the man understand the ramifications of the charges he is facing and prepare the best defense strategy possible. With an attorney’s help, the accused New York man’s rights will be protected while they work toward the best possible outcome given his situation.
