New York woman’s alleged failure to dim lights led to DWI charges

On Behalf of | Feb 15, 2017 | DWI |

A New York woman was arrested on the evening of Jan. 27 on accusations that she was driving while intoxicated. Police reports indicate that she was initially pulled over when she allegedly failed to dim her headlights. She is now facing DWI charges.

Police say they pulled the woman over when she did not dim her high beams as she was approaching another vehicle. The officer’s report states that her speech was slurred, her eyes bloodshot and glassy, and her breath had a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. When standardized field sobriety tests were administered, she reportedly performed poorly.

According to police, the woman has since been released on her own recognizance. She was charged with a misdemeanor of driving while intoxicated, first offense. In addition, she faces the similar charge of operating a motor vehicle with .08 of 1 percent alcohol or more in blood, first offense.

Records indicate this is the first time the woman has faced such allegations. She has every right to secure the services of a criminal defense lawyer to confront these formal accusations. Merely being charged with a DWI does not automatically mean she will be convicted, as every situation is different. Breathalyzer tests may produce a false-positive result, and field sobriety test results often depend upon the skills of the officer interpreting them. An attorney with experience in similar drunk driving cases can offer ongoing assistance to anyone in New York facing DWI charges, exploring all defense options to focus on achieving the best possible outcome.
